FengShui is the ancient Chinese art of geomancy. Geomancy is just a fancy word for placing things, buildings, or almost anything in an arrangement that promotes the flow of energy and good fortune and luck. It encourages people to put things in such a way as to move the good energy or “qi” around so it can circulate around the home and bring everyone good luck and good fortune. Fengshui is rooted in thousands of years of traditions and follows a certain set of rules. Everything from the number of steps in your home to the way you  position your bed is said to affect your health and good fortune.

Even if you’re not Chinese, you may want to look at some of the recommendations for a fengshui living room, as they actually have some benefits and makes sense in some way. For example, you always want to make sure that there’s enough space between the furniture in your living room. To ‘fengshui’ a living room, you need to make sure that the qi can move around, but this also means that people can move around comfortably when they maneuver around the furniture. This can prevent accidents and allow your guests to move and mingle with other people if you’re having a party. Fol    lowing the fengshui tradition may seem like a lot of superstition, but there’s really not hard in following some of the traditions, especially if it makes a lot of sense to use in your every day sense.

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice of geomancy. This practice relies on the laws of heaven and earth to improve a person’s life. Arranging the home to improve the flow of positive energy or qi does this. While some may dismiss this as voodoo, in some cases, changing around and arranging your home a certain way according to feng shui practices can actually make sense. For example, you can do some feng shui living room practices in your own home and still make it look beautiful.

Feng shui living room practices aren’t really difficult to execute. According to feng shui, the arrangement of furniture in the living room should have a focal point, otherwise the good fortune cannot find its way into the room. For example, the basic living room arrangement usually follows conventional living room forms. The main sofa is usually placed along the wall with a one-seater love seat on the right side and a two-seater sofa on the left side, plus a coffee table in the middle. Placing the sofa against the wall symbolizes “support luck’ and the seating arrangement of the smaller sofas represent the activation of the different celestial animals. However, most people really have their living rooms arranged this way.

Too many furniture pieces can block the flow of energy and can block the success of the family. In many cases, having too many pieces of furniture can make a living room look too crowded and small anyway, which is why the arrangement described earlier is the most optimal.
